Calcutta’s own – Dr. Deepan Chatterjee loves to write fiction and poetry, as well as essays on mental health-related topics. His writing has appeared in several newspapers, journals and literary magazines, including The Statesman, The Telegraph, The Tower, The Harbinger, Altarum Institute, Daily Kos, and The Maryland Psychologist, among others. His poetry has also been featured in art exhibitions, including “Poets and Painters” at The Artist’s Gallery in Columbia, Maryland. This exhibit was also featured prominently in the Baltimore Sun. 

About Deepan Chatterjee – Dr. Deepan Chatterjee is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, writer and CME presenter. Dr. Chatterjee came back to the city of his birth, Kolkata at the age of 13 after spending some ten years in Mumbai. He studied at La Martiniere for Boys, where he excelled in academics, debating, quizzing, and literary pursuits, among others. After graduating from La Martiniere, he received a full scholarship for four years of undergraduate study at Bethany CoOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAllege in West Virginia, USA. He then earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a minor concentration in Developmental Psychology from Howard University in Washington D.C., and completed his clinical internship and postdoctoral training in the Regimented Offenders Treatment Center (ROTC) at the maximum-security Patuxent Institution in Jessup, Maryland. Throughout his academic and clinical career, he has won many awards and distinctions, prominent among them being “International Student Scholar” (only 2 awarded worldwide), the Thomas Briggs Award for graduating with the highest honors in Psychology, the W.F. Kennedy Prize for the Most Outstanding Student, as well as the Hawthorne Dissertation Fellowship, awarded to the best dissertation in graduate school. He is currently a member of several distinguished organizations, including the American Psychological Association, the American Society for the Advancement of Pharmacotherapy, and the Maryland Academy of Medical Psychology, among others. In 2013, he was elected a Fellow of the Maryland Psychological Association.

Dr. Chatterjee has worked at a variety of clinical settings, including both outpatient and inpatient settings over a career spanning fourteen years. He is currently a Partner and works as a Clinical Psychologist at a psychiatric practice, PsychoGeriatric Services, where he provides psychological and diagnostic evaluations, psychopharmacological consults, as well as individual and family therapy to patients living in skilled nursing home facilities in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. region. He has published papers and presented seminars and workshops to professionals on topics of immigrant psychology, addiction, optimism, and dual diagnosis at several major conferences, including the American Psychological Association, Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital, Gallaudet University, and the Maryland Psychological Association.
